On Wednesday, February 3, Louisiana Appleseed hosted a roundtable discussion on the topic of preventing relationship abuse through educating Louisiana youth. Fifty-two people, including lawyers, domestic violence service providers, educators and government officials attended. Participants in the roundtable included two judges from Baton Rouge Family Court (Judge Woodruff-White and Judge Baker), East Baton Rouge District Attorney Hillar Moore and State Rep. Patricia Haynes Smith. The group discussed the need for prevention, ongoing prevention efforts around the state, barriers to prevention through education, solutions to these barriers and the economic costs of domestic violence to our state. We formed a Task Force to study the prevention issue and devise an advocacy plan. PHOTOS >>
