Accolades

Louisiana Appleseed has received accolades and recognition for the impact its projects have had on the recovering Gulf Coast, some of which are listed below: 

Louisiana Appleseed was designated as an “Innovator of the Year” by New Orleans CityBusiness in September 2007 for developing and implementing successful pro bono programs across the state. 

Christy Kane, Louisiana Appleseed Executive Director, was also named as one of the “Women of the Year” by the same publication for her financial education and inclusion program for Latino immigrants.

 Allison Berger Tiller, Appleseed Gulf Coast Recovery Project director, was invited to speak on the topic of turning crises into a pro bono opportunity at the Pro Bono Institute’s annual seminar and focused on leveraging pro bono work to achieve the broadest impact. 

 The Louisiana Bar Journal featured Appleseed volunteer attorney Malcolm Meyer’s article on heir property for publication in its February/March 2008 issue. 

John Ysdtie, of National Public Radio (NPR), interviewed Appleseed volunteer attorney Malcolm Meyer and Appleseed’s Allison Berger Tiller about the state developments regarding heir property.  The feature aired in late April 2008.

The Louisiana Bar Foundation (LBF) invited Louisiana Appleseed to be a strategic partner. 

The FDIC invited Louisiana Appleseed to participate in their Alliance for Economic Inclusion initiative, as well as to address the group regarding its Access to Financial Services project.

LSU AgCenter asked Louisiana Appleseed to address a state-wide housing coalition regarding Appleseed’s heirship property project.
